Team India opener Rohit Sharma has stepped up to the task in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli. He has led India to a couple of trophies in recent times which has ignited the debate of split captaincy in the Indian cricket. After former cricketer Atul Wassan, another former wicket-keeper Kiran More weighed in on the split captaincy debate.

Rohit has ticked all the boxes whenever he stepped in as the stand-in skipper. With a lot of cricket played in today’s time, there is a popular opinion to split the captaincy to ease off the burden from a single cricketer.

Virat Kohli currently leads India across formats while Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane are the deputies in the limited-overs and Test respectively. Apart from leading India in the three formats, Kohli also at the helm of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

Kiran More weighs in on split captaincy

Recently, Kiran More weighed in on the split captaincy debate. Speaking to Sportskeeda, More said that the authorities should put more thought into this. The former selector said that it will be good for both of the cricketers.

“I think some thought should be put into this. Kohli is captaining RCB and Indian team across formats. You need to handle pressure and all that. Rohit is doing a great job, it will be good for Virat.” More said to Sportskeeda. 

Moreover, Kiran More also said that Virat Kohli looks in line to break Sachin Tendulkar’s international record. The current India skipper currently has 43 ODI centuries and is nearing 49 ODI centuries. Kohli also has 70 international centuries and is closing on 100 international tons.

“Virat has been a superstar, I told he will captain the Indian team and beat Tendulkar’s record back in 2008 when he captained India U-19. He wants to win matches all the time, he’s fantastic.” More said.
