Ace Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya copped a lot of criticisms for his below-par returns in the T20 World Cup 2021 that saw his side crash out of the competition from the group stage. Apart from a quick-fire cameo against Afghanistan, there was no notable contribution from him with the bat while he could bowl only four overs throughout the competition.

Hardik also struggled to bowl and didn’t look in full rhythm which also impacted his batting. The 28-year-old has finally broken his silence on his performances at the tournament and claimed too much onus was put on him.

Hardik Pandya stated that he bowled in matches where has not supposed to and was selected in the team as a batter. Talking on ‘Backstage with Boria’, Pandya said:

“The position we were in at the World Cup, I felt everything was thrown at me. I was selected in the squad as a batter. I worked hard to bowl in the 1st game, but I couldn’t. I did bowl in the 2nd one even when I wasn’t supposed to.”

The Baroda-born all-rounder has been out of action since the T20 World Cup. He is currently working on his fitness and lower-back injury to return to action in full swing.

“I want to win the World Cup for the country” – Hardik Pandya

Hardik stated that he is planning to make a comeback during the Indian Premier League but all his focus is on helping India win the World Cup.

“My main aim is to be at my peak when the World Cup happens. All my training, planning, preparation is keeping the World Cup in mind. I want to win the World Cup for the country. It will make me really happy and proud. It is like an obsession with me,” Hardik added.
