A BCCI official has stated that the Indian women cricketers will get T20 World Cup 2020 cash prize by this week. The reward is on hold for over a year and the matter was first reported on the UK edition of The Telegraph. The players will receive their share from the USD 500,000 prize money by the end of this week said the BCCI official. 

A report in the UK edition of The Telegraph said that the CEO of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations, Tom Moffat said that they were made aware of the issue in August 2020 and reached out to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Indian players about the same.

Indian Women Cricketers To Receive Prize Money By This Week

“The members of the Indian women’s cricket team will be getting the share of their prize money by the end of this week. The transactions have been processed and I am expecting that they will receive their share very soon,” the senior board functionary told PTI.

Asked the reason behind the delay, the BCCI spokesperson said that they got the cash prize after three to four months after which they were busy categorising the money between the age groups. In the meantime, the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai remained closed due to the impact of COVID-19. 

The Processing Took Time: BCCI Official

“We received the prize money amount late last year.”The processing of players’ payments in BCCI does take around three to four months for all teams (across age groups) It’s not just one payment for women. Whether it’s the central contract of the men’s team, international match fees, domestic fees of men and women, everything is taking a bit of time because of the prevailing situation,” a former BCCI office-bearer said. 

The Indian squad was led by Harmanpreet Kaur who lost in the final to Australia in front of an MCG crowd of 80000 supporters. Meanwhile, individually every 15 player is to receive about $33,000 each.
