Now, former T20 captain of West Indies, Darren Sammy has disclosed how Pollard can generate insane power without much of an effort. Sammy gave away that Pollard is a thinking batsman and on slow surfaces, he sits deep in the crease and doesn’t commit much on the front foot.

This technique allows Kieron Pollard to spot any variations from the bowler and he then has that extra time to adjust. As a result, he’s one step ahead of the bowlers and his then able to hit mighty sixes. Pollard uses the crease brilliantly and just times the ball which lands 20 rows back from the ground.

“Against the slow bowlers who change their pace, you didn’t want to commit. So I would deliberately keep my weight on the back foot. You can adjust better. When they bowl that slower ball, you are not committing early. If you look at Kieron Pollard or Andre Russell, you can see them take that step back deep in the crease and waiting”, Daren Sammy told The Indian Express.

“That’s something that works. On bouncier tracks too this technique can come useful. You don’t want to commit early on the front foot and be caught at gully or something. You don’t want to come too early and get hit on the splice of the bat or gloves. There you use the crease more, go back”, Sammy added.

Meanwhile, the destructive Pollard was awarded the man of the match for his scintillating knock against Kings XI Punjab. Sammy revealed a pro tip for all the youngsters who want to imitate the power of Pollard. The key is to go deep inside the crease, spot the variations and then execute the big strokes.

Furthermore, the defending champions after their emphatic win over KXIP are now sitting on top of the IPL 2020 table.
