Mohammed Shami defended five runs in the first Super over of the KXIP vs MI encounter in Dubai, to take the game onto another Super Over. Punjab ultimately won the game as they scored 12 to win the second Super Over courtesy Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal. Winning this game, Punjab keep themselves afloat in the race for the playoffs. They have now six points from nine games with five more to go in the league stage. Shami also has been the highest wicket-taker for Kings XI Punjab in the season with 14 wickets from nine games.

Mohammed Shami Reveals How He Nailed His Yorkers vs MI

The KXIP pacer revealed how he nailed perfect yorkers consistently to make it difficult for Rohit Sharma and Quinton De Kock. He matched Jasprit Bumrah yorker after yorker with his large-hearted effort of defending five in the first Super Over.

“It was very difficult. When you get 15-17 runs to defend in the Super Over, it’s a different matter altogether. You believe at the back of your mind that you can do it. But when the margin of error is so less, you focus on what you can do best. I believe a lot in myself. When I was going back on the top of my mark every ball, I was saying to myself, ‘This last ball was great. The next ball will be great too’. I repeated that six times” Shami said.

Earlier in the game, Shami took the wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya in the middle-overs to restrict Mumbai from potentially getting to 200. Kieron Pollard and Nathan Coulter-Nile added 57 runs in the last four overs to take Mumbai to 176.

As it turned out, it was not enough as Punjab somehow tied the game after being well on their way to lose it post the wicket of KL Rahul.

Meanwhile, this was Mumbai Indians’ second Super Over loss of the season after losing an earlier game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
