Kolkata Knight Riders opener Shubman Gill looks focused ahead of the second leg of IPL 2021. His side is placed seventh in the points table with just two wins from their first seven games. Gill himself had a below-par first-half scoring only 132 runs at an average of 18.85. The BCCI had decided to postpone the IPL season after players from different IPL camps tested positive in the first half.

Talking to KKR’s official website, Shubman Gill opened up on his side’s chances in the UAE leg. The youngster seemed pretty confident of his side turning things around in the second half of the tournament. He got starts in every game in the first half but was not able to get big scores which was expected of him.

“I think a break was really important. Sometimes such things happen that you don’t expect. I think we are very much in the contention to finish in the Top 4. Whichever team qualifies, you never know what will happen. So, hopefully we will win the remaining matches, make sure we qualify and then we’ll see where we go from there,” Shubman said after reaching the team hotel.

KKR resume their UAE leg against RCB on September 20. In the first half of the season, KKR lost to RCB in the first game between the two sides. KKR’s wins came against SRH and Punjab Kings.

Talking about his plans for phase II of IPL 2021, Shubman added, “If we keep doing what we have done in the past years and just enjoy our game, then it’s not possible that we won’t do well or qualify.”
