IPL 2022: “I Am Different From Rahul Dravid And MS Dhoni, Or Anyone Else” – Sanju Samson

POSTED INRaRajasthan Royal skipper Sanju Samson has expressed that tries to be natural with his leadership. In the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, Sanju led the Royals to the finals of the tournament. Unfortunately, they could not pass the last hurdle and ended up as runners-up.

Sanju Samson scored 458 runs in seventeen IPL matches this season. He averaged 28.63 and had a strike rate of 146.79. Under his leadership, the Rajasthan Royals finished the league stages as the second-ranked team. They won nine out of their fourteen matches and earned 18 points. Rajasthan Royals defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second qualifier to reach the finals.

In a conversation with Malayalam film director Basil Joseph, Sanju had expressed that he tries to be natural with his leadership.

“I am different from Dravid or Dhoni, or anyone else. So, I try to be as natural as I am. Primarily, I try to assess the mood of the team. Often, they are all pumped up and so needn’t tell them that you should try your best,” Sanju had said according to a report in The Indian Express.

“It’s sometimes the stupidest thing you would tell because everyone wants to perform to the best of their skills,” he added.

Rahul Dravid’s speeches were profound: Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson played under Rahul Dravid at the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. He also spent a lot of time with the former cricketer with the India A team. Sanju expressed that Dravid ‘inspired’ players to give their best with his ‘profound’ speeches. He had said,

“His speeches were profound. He often spoke of the higher purpose of life. His words had a hypnotic power to hold our attention for a long time.

“But as much as his speeches, he was so caring and understanding. He loved us, and thus inspired us to produce our best. That’s the atmosphere we are trying to create in Rajasthan,” added Sanju Samson.
