KXIP skipper KL Rahul was relieved after his side got over the line against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. After afternoon’s match, another super over this time between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab had to be contested.

KXIP needed 2 off the final over when MI executed a runout and the scores were tied. An umpiring call in the last over which seemed wide surprisingly went in the favour of MI and both teams were 176 after their respective 20 overs.

Unfortunately for KXIP, Jasprit Bumrah was at his best in the super over. He gave away just 5 runs and took the wickets of Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul.

However, Mohammed Shami matched Bumrah’s top-class over. He too gave away only 5 runs in his over as another super over had to be executed to separate the two sides.

In round 2 of the super over, Chris Jordan was trusted to bowl the over by KXIP. Bowling the Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya he held his nerves and gave away 11 runs.

Earlier in the match batting first MI on the back of Quinton de Kock’s fifty they reached a competitive total 176. Meanwhile, KL Rahul continued his prolific form and scored 77 from 51 deliveries. Eventually, two dramatic super overs had to be played to separate the two teams in a match for the ages.

Was Just Hoping That We Get Over The Line- KL Rahul

Finally, after so many twists and drama KXIP was able to clinch the match. Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle dominated Trent Boult and chased down a total of 10 runs and completed a memorable win.

Here what the winning skipper KL Rahul who was also the man of the match for his outstanding knock had to say in the post-match presentation.

“Yeah okay. It is not the first time. But we don’t want to make a habit out of it. We will take the two points in the end. It doesn’t always happen the way you plan so you don’t really know how to stay balanced. I was just hoping we get over the line because the boys have been working really really hard. In the games that we have lost, even then we have played well and just not been able to get over the line”.

“After wicketkeeping for 20 overs, I knew the first six overs were crucial. The wicket was slightly slower so it was important for us to get runs in the Powerplay. I knew Chris and Pooran… I trust them to take down spinners. So Chris coming in has made my job easier as a batter. You can never prepare for Super Overs. No team does. So you have to trust your bowler’s gut. You trust your bowler, and let them believe their instinct and gut”.

“He was very clear he wanted to go six yorkers. He has been phenomenal, and keeps getting better every game. It is important that senior players win the games for the team, but we still want to take it one game at a time. It is sweet after the kind of matches we have lost but the talk in the dressing room is to focus on the process. We know we need to win everything from here, but we can’t forget the processes that lead to a win”, said KL Rahul.
