Australia’s David Warner has been an ardent servant of Sunrisers Hyderabad over the last couple of years. However, it had a bittersweet end after Warner was stripped of leadership duties and left out of the playing XI midway in IPL 2021.

Warner, who had a lean patch with the bat in the first half of IPL 2021, played only a couple of games in the second phase. Soon after the season ended, David Warner had expressed his desire to leave the franchise and put his name in IPL 2022 auction.

And quite expectedly, Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t retain him for the upcoming season. As the saga continues to make some noises, Irfan Pathan has backed SRH saying that even when Warner was banned from playing by Australia, it was the franchise that stood by and supported him.

“Ppl who is questioning a franchise decision about a foreign player should also remember that the same franchise supported him when his own country banned him to play,” tweeted Irfan Pathan.

David Warner posts emotional message after ending ties with Sunrisers Hyderabad

Soon after Sunrisers Hyderabad announced their list of 3 retaining players, David Warner posted an emotional note to bid goodbye to his team and the fans, who have supported him through thick and thin.

”Chapter closed!! Thanks to all of the fans for your support over all the years, it was much appreciated,” stated Warner on Instagram.
