Mark Waugh Slams David Warner After He Gets Out Early in Third Test vs India

Warner was out after scoring just five runs playing a loose shot.

The return of David Warner was seen as a big plus to sort out a wobbly Australian top-order heading into the third Test. However, on the very first morning of the third Test, Warner was out after scoring just five runs playing a loose shot. Mohammed Siraj knicked him off to the slips where he was caught by Cheteshwar Pujara. Warner came into the Test match on the back on the back of a groin injury and not being totally fit.

Meanwhile, David Warner was slammed and criticised by former Australian batsman Mark Waugh after his early dismissal. Warner chased down a delivery wide outside off to get himself out. He played the shot without getting himself set into his innings. Warner was dismissed on the eighth delivery he faced in his innings.

Waugh reflected on Warner’s dismissal and appeared unimpressed with the shot that got him out. “That’s just a loose shot. That’s not a shot you want to be playing in the first 20 minutes of a Test match. You’re driving on the up, it’s not there to drive and it’s wide as well and you’re throwing your hands at it” Waugh said on Fox Cricket.

Waugh further said that had Warner not been totally fit he still would have played that shot.

“Even if his groin was okay, he would have had to take an almighty step to get even close to that delivery. Just an impatient shot really and maybe trying to get runs on the board quickly.”

David Warner injured his groin in the second ODI against India and then was ruled out from the remaining of the series. He missed the entire limited-overs series and the first two Tests as well.

Very obviously Australian captain Tim Paine was a happy man when he was sure of Warner’s availability for the third Test.

Obviously with David (Warner) playing and potentially more, there’s some conversations that need to be had first. Davey’s been awesome, he brings really high intensity and fills guys with confidence around him. He’s a player that you love having on your side. He’s always got plenty to say, really energetic, very professional and I’ve always loved playing”, Paine said.
