Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni has been sanctioned for a Code of Conduct breach during their IPL 2021 opener against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Incidentally, Dhoni poor day in business as he failed to score runs before losing the match by seven wickets before more agony piled on him.
The three-time IPL champions maintained a slow over-rate during their game against Delhi Capitals and had to pay the price. It was MS Dhoni’s first offence and a couple of more can see him getting suspended for a match or two. Earlier in the day, Dhoni got out for a second-ball duck off Avesh Khan which was first fourth in the history of IPL and first since 2015.
MS Dhoni reprimanded for slow over-rate
“Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 10,” BCCI said in a statement.
As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh,” it added.
Speaking of the game, Delhi Capitals bowlers did a good job to restrict Chennai Super Kings below 200 after a Suresh Raina show. Moeen Ali and Sam Curran also chipped in with useful contributions to post 188 runs on the board. But it was the Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan show at the Wankhede Stadium that took the game away from Chennai with seven wickets in hand. Delhi now have secured three wins on the bounce against the Super Kings. Rishabh Pant began his career as a captain in the IPL with a win against his idol.
