There have been multiple instances of cricketers with the same surnames having played cricket. This could be two brothers or unrelated players coming from different countries. Since cricket has seen expansion on a global level in recent times, it isn’t a surprise that there are plenty of players with the same first name.

On that note, we form a playing XI that consists of players whose first name is ‘Stuart’. It is filled with cricketers from England, Australia, India, and more.

Top Order

Stuart Matskinyeri: The Zimbabwean cricketer was a prodigy during his early days in U-19 levels. He couldn’t carry it into the international stage, however. In 113 ODI’s, Matsikenyeri scored 2224 runs at a poor average of 22.01. He played his last game on 20 November 2006.

Stuart Williams: Williams had big shoes to fill when he came in place of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes. Unfortunately, the pressure was too much for him to handle. In 107 innings for the West Indies, he scored just two centuries and averaged 28.26, which was well short of expectations.

Stuart Carlisle: Another Zimbabwean on the list, Carlisle had a career span of 10 years and played 148 matches in total. He scored his maiden century against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Carlisle quit from cricket after he was unable to deal with the internal struggles with Zimbabwe Cricket Board over Heath Streak’s sacking.

Middle & Lower Order

Playing XI Stuart

Stuart Poynter: The Irish cricketer had originally played for Durham at the county level. He made his debut for Ireland against Scotland in September 2014. Poynter had a disappointing career, averaging lower than 20 in all the formats. He retired in 2019 to focus all his attention on the county games.

Stuart Law: The Australian is the most successful captain in his country’s domestic circuit. Although he doesn’t have much to show at the international level, Stuart Law is the leading run-scorer for Queensland in FC cricket. For Australia, he averaged 26.89, amassing 1237 runs in 54 games.

Stuart Binny: Son of Roger Binny, Stuart Binny hasn’t had as successful a career as his dad. However, he has performed in a couple of matches, particularly against Bangladesh where he took a record 6/4 in 4.4 overs at the Sher-e Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. It is the best bowling figures for an Indian in ODI’s.

Stuart Thompson: The Irishman was a decent all-rounder for his side. Stuart Thompson was part of the playing XI for Ireland’s iconic first Test against Pakistan in May 2018. Alongside Poynter, he was one of the 19 players who were awarded a central contract by the Irish board. He will also be part of Ireland’s squad which will shortly face off England in an ODI series.

The Bowling Attack

Stuart Clark: The Australian tall pacer was a promising bowler for the Baggy Greens. Clark got an opportunity to be part of the squad in the famous 2005 Ashes series after injuries to Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee. He had a pretty good bowling average in international cricket and took 160 wickets in 72 matches overall.

Stuart MacGill: For the Australian side, MacGill was a Test match specialist. He played 44 games in the longest format, picking up 208 wickets with a career-best of 8/108 against Bangladesh. He took 12 five-wicket hauls, and average 29.02. For most of his career, he played under the shadow of legendary leg-spinner, Shane Warne.

Stuart Broad: The English pacer is considered to be a legend of the game. Alongside James Anderson, he forms one of the most effective wicket-taking partnerships ever. In 148 Test matches, Broad has picked up 523 wickets with a ridiculous best of 8/15 against arch-rivals Australia. He also has a century to his name, an innings of 169 scored at Lord’s against Pakistan. Stuart Broad walks in to most of the playing XI’s.

Stuart Gillespie: While the other Gillespie played for Australia, Stuart Gillespie played for New Zealand. Since he was a specialist seam bowler, he was considered to be a bright prospect for the Kiwis. He failed to impress in the few opportunities he received however and was eventually replaced by the legendary Richard Hadlee.
