The Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings match in IPL 2021 was one for the ages. Another run-fest in Mumbai ended on the last ball as Sanu Samson failed to hit a boundary. The Rajasthan skipper smashed a 100 on his IPL captaincy debut and again showed his quality. Samson played an outrageously knock and scored 119 in mere 63 balls with 12 boundaries and 7 sixes.
Punjab Kings win a last-ball thriller against Rajasthan Royals
Eventually chasing a target of 222 runs, RR fell just 4 runs shorts and it was heartbreak from Samson as he was hold out at the extra cover boundary. Credit to the bowler Arshdeep Singh who defended 13 runs from the final over and helped his side get off to a winning start in IPL 2021.
Who Said What?
Meanwhile, was a day of captains as KL Rahul in the first half played a splendid knock of 91 runs and took his team to a match-winning total. Here’s what the winning skipper KL Rahul and Sanju Samson had to say in the post-match presentation.
“I don’t have words to tell, very close game, came close but unfortunately. I don’t think I could have done anything more, timed it well, but unfortunately couldn’t clear the man in the deep. It’s all part of the game (when asked about the bowlers going for plenty from both sides), we thought the wicket was getting better and we could chase the target down. Despite the loss, I think the team played really well”, said Sanju Samson who was also the player of the match.
“I didn’t stop believing in the team, and we knew a couple of wickets will bring us back. The game went deep only because me included, we dropped some sitters. We bowled well until about 11-12 overs. We’re used to this, and it’s not something new for us, but a win like this brings the team together. We batted really well and bowled well in patches. We weren’t consistent with the lengths but the bowlers will learn. A lot of talented, skilful players, and it’s important that we back them. It was an amazing innings from Hooda, and that’s the kind of fearless batting we want to see in the IPL”, said KL Rahul.
