The action will finally take centre stage today as the IPL 2020 will get underway. Defending Champions Mumbai Indians will lock horns against the Chennai Super Kings. The two heavyweight IPL sides will renew their classic rivalry in the season opener. 

The two sides will be led by two legends of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni. The two have by far been the most successful captain in IPL history. Rohit has led MI to most 4 IPL titles whereas CSK under Dhoni has lifted 3 IPL trophies. 

Meanwhile, both skippers will be looking to lead from the front with the bat for their respective sides. All eyes will be glued when Dhoni steps out to bat in his first match after announcing his retirement. Whereas Rohit too will be looking to continue his impressive record and will be eyeing to go past Kohli in the process. 

Rohit Sharma on verge of breaking Kohli’s record against CSK

The RCB skipper Virat Kohli holds the record for most runs as captain against CSK with 747 runs. Rohit Sharma is not far behind as he just needs another 42 runs to overtake Kohli’s record for the most runs against CSK as skipper in the IPL. So far the elegant batsman has scored 705 runs in 27 runs and will be eyeing a personal milestone in the first match itself. 

Moreover, Rohit is also the third-highest run-getter in IPL history and he is only behind Kohli and Suresh Raina. He has so far scored 4898 runs in his IPL career at an average of 31.6 and a strike rate of 130.8 including one century.

Also, Before the COVID-19 pandemic took over globally, Rohit was previously out of action with a calf injury, which he attained during the India-New Zealand T20Is in February 2020. Therefore, he missed out on the preceding three ODIs and two Tests. 

Furthermore, Mumbai Indians holds an edge against Chennai Super Kings as they have won their last 5 matches against Dhoni’s men including last year’s IPL final. The match begins at 7:30 IST from the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
