The Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has reached another feat in his illustrious career. In the match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rohit Sharma became the only fourth player in Indian Premier League history to hit 200 sixes. He along with MS Dhoni are the only Indians featuring in the elite list.

Chris Gayle heads the list with 326 sixes whereas Ab de Villiers is placed second with 214 sixes. CSK skipper MS Dhoni is placed third with 212 sixes and now Rohit Sharma has joined in with 201 sixes as of his last innings against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Rohit Sharma Joins MS Dhoni in a unique feat

In Mumbai Indians second match of the season, they were asked to bat first at Abu Dhabi. Mumbai’s openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock walked out to bat first for the second time in this tournament. The wicket-keeper lost his wicket very early on in the innings but it was Rohit Sharma who took the charge for Mumbai Indians.

During that onslaught of 80 runs by Rohit Sharma is when he completed the special feat of surpassing 200 sixes in IPL history. His innings included 6 glorious sixes as he helped Mumbai Indians reach a total of 195 runs at the end of 20 overs. As a captain, Rohit Sharma has been the most successful captain in the history of the IPL.

After taking over from Australian legend Ricky Ponting in 2013, Rohit Sharma went on to lead the Mumbai based franchise to four titles in last seven years. Mumbai Indians won titles in the years 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. This year they will be looking to defend last year’s title as Rohit Sharma will be in the chase of his fifth IPL title this season.

Rohit Sharma started his IPL journey in 2008 with the Deccan Chargers franchise where he was bought by the Hyderabad based franchise for a sum of USD 750,000. In the 2011 IPL auction, Rohit Sharma was bought by Mumbai Indians for USD 2 million and has been a part of the franchise ever since.
