Sai Kishore

Gujarat Titans spinner R Sai Kishore achieved a rare milestone during the clash against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Introduced in the 20th over of the first innings, Sai Kishore became just the third spinner in IPL history to bowl his first over at such a late stage.

This unique scenario had only occurred twice before: first with Sanath Jayasuriya for Mumbai Indians in 2009, and then with Rohit Sharma representing Deccan Chargers in 2010. Sai Kishore’s feat came 15 years after Rohit’s, further underlining the rarity of such an occurrence in T20 cricket. His inclusion at the death overs marked a tactical move by GT, and it paid off in a big way.

Game-Changing Over from Sai Kishore

Despite being handed the ball only in the final over, Sai Kishore made an instant impact. He maintained tight control and restricted Delhi Capitals’ scoring in the final moments of their innings. In his single over, he gave away just nine runs and picked up the crucial wicket of Ashutosh Sharma, who was threatening with a fiery 37 off 19 balls.

On the second-last delivery, Sai Kishore bowled a flatter one that tempted Ashutosh into an ambitious shot. The batter went aerial but couldn’t clear long-on, where substitute fielder Mahipal Lomror safely completed the catch. This timely dismissal kept Delhi under the 210-run mark, closing their innings at 203/8.

Buttler Powers GT to the Top

Chasing 204, the Gujarat Titans showcased a powerful batting performance. Jos Buttler led from the front with a commanding knock, staying unbeaten on 97 from 54 balls. His calculated aggression kept the Titans in control of the chase. He found support in Sherfane Rutherford, who contributed a valuable 40 off 30 deliveries after being introduced as an impact player.

With just 10 runs needed in the final over, Buttler finished the match in style. Mitchell Starc, Delhi’s last-match hero, was on the receiving end of GT’s final blows, conceding a six and a four to seal a seven-wicket win. The victory propelled Gujarat Titans back to the top of the points table, while Delhi slipped to second after suffering their second loss of the season.
