Sri Lanka Cricketer Sandun Weerakkody Tests Positive For Covid-19

After Head coach Grant Flower and team analyst G T Niroshan, another Sri Lanka cricketer has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. Sandun Weerakkody, who was in a bio-bubble at Cinnamon Grand in Colombo has tested positive for the virus.

Rex Clementine, Writer at The Island, tweeted informing about the news. He tweeted:

“I’m sorry to be the one to bring all the bad news. Sandun Weerakkody, who was in a bubble for 10 days at Cinnamon Grand has tested positive for COVID. Last afternoon he was sent to Dambulla from Colombo to play a practice match. Awaiting more PCR results. Things looking gloomy.”

Earlier this month, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) asked thirteen of its thirty-nine players, who signed New Annual Contracts for the year 2021/2022 to join the bio-bubble in Colombo as a preparation for upcoming tours. Sandun Weerakkody was part of the thirteen players group. On Friday, he was sent to Dambulla to play a practice game. But now his immediate Covid-19 results have come positive.

India vs Sri Lanka series rescheduled

After seven players from the England contingent that played against Sri Lanka tested positive for Covid 19, head Coach Grant Flower and Team analyst from the Sri Lanka squad have also tested positive for the Virus.

“The data analyst of the Sri Lanka National Team, G. T Niroshan, has tested positive for COVID-19.

“He was found to be positive, following a PCR test carried out among national players, coaches, and support staff yesterday, following the identification of Grant Flower as COVID positive. Niroshan is now undergoing due to medical protocols.” Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in a statement.

As per reports, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board is planning to reschedule the series against India. The series will start from July 18.
