Struggling Indian Batter From BGT 2024-25 To Train With Ranji Team: Reports

Rohit Sharma, Team India‘s captain for Tests and ODIs, is set to begin training with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad starting Tuesday, January 14. Mumbai is scheduled to play their first match in the second leg of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy against Jammu & Kashmir at the MCA ground in BKC from January 23.

Rohit had a tough time during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, managing just 31 runs in five innings, with a top score of 10. The 37-year-old withdrew from the final Test in Sydney due to his poor form. Following India’s 3-1 series loss, head coach Gautam Gambhir encouraged Indian players to play domestic cricket.

The BCCI had also advised all players to participate in the Ranji Trophy unless injured or on national duty. According to a report in the Times of India, Rohit will begin his training with the Mumbai team from Tuesday, with a source confirming the development.

“Rohit, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, and Shardul Thakur will train with the Mumbai team at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, and then at the BKC on Wednesday and Thursday. Rohit has told the MCA that he will come for practice. At the moment, there are all indications that he’s keen to play the match versus J&K.”
