The ace all-rounder has returned to the Test squad for the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka, after a long injury lay-off. Axar copped up an injury during the Test series against New Zealand and since then has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy.

Axar replaces Kuldeep Yadav, who was released from the squad. Kuldeep was not a part of the playing XI in the 1st Test as the management showed trust in Jayant Yadav alongside Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Axar Patel to India’s squad for the second Paytm Test to be played from 12-16th March in Bengaluru. The all-rounder has completed his rehab and has been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team,” BCCI said in a statement.

“Kuldeep Yadav has been released from the squad for the second Test,” it added.
