David Warner effected a crucial runout dismissing the dangerous Nicholas Pooran for a duck to put Sunrisers Hyderabad on top against Punjab Kings. The KL Rahul-led side reel at 45 for three at the end of eight overs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in match 14 of IPL 2021.
Opting to bat first, skipper KL Rahul didn’t get a good start departing for only four runs holing out to Kedar Jadhav, who is playing his first game of IPL 2021. In walked Chris Gayle to Mayank Agarwal, who showed some intent to score runs against a decent Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling. Although he struggled to find the boundaries but rotated the scorecard.
Just when things started looking bright for Punjab Kings, a brilliant catch from Rashid Khan ended Mayank’s stay in the middle. It was followed by a runout thanks to a brilliant fielding display from David Warner, who hit the bullseye to dismiss Nicholas Pooran without playing a ball.

Pooran ran himself out without playing a single delivery. Chris Gayle punched one to the right off the cover and immediately set off for a quick single. It was Gayle’s call and he wasn’t a smart one at that. Nicholas Pooran had to respond, he did so, but David Warner was quick on the ball. He threw it in one motion and made a direct hit at the striker’s end, with Pooran well short of the crease.
The southpaw went for a diamond duck thanks to a brilliant piece of fielding from Hyderabad skipper David Warner. Punjab Kings are in deep deep trouble losing a couple of wickets on a trot.
