Punjab Kings spinner Ravi Bishnoi pulled off the best catch of IPL 2021 so far as Punjab Kings struck early against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Defending 124 runs, Mohammed Shami provided the first breakthrough before Bishnoi’s breathtaking catch got the better of Sunil Narine.

The KL Rahul-led side came all guns blazing with bowlers hitting the deck and delivering the results with the new ball. Moises Henriques delivered the first wicket as Nitish Rana found Shahrukh Khan at the covers trying to dispatch a full toss delivery. Mohammed Shami pounced on the momentum to remove out-of-from Shubman Gill before Ravi Bishnoi’s scorcher sent back Sunil Narine for a duck.

Ravi Bishnoi picks the catch of the season

It was a length ball and Sunil Narine tried to slog across the line and was caught at deep mid. Ravi Bishnoi, who was nowhere in the scene ran almost 30-35 meters dived full length, and took a blinder inches ahead of the ground. That was an agricultural slog and might have gotten away with it but Bishnoi pulled off a stunning catch to put Kolkata Knight Riders under some early pressure.

Earlier in the day, the wicket didn’t favour lusty hitting but Punjab Kings also didn’t show the desired application on a wicket which seems to be mimicking the Chepauk. The wicket was sluggish, favoured the slower ones and the Punjab batters didn’t show enough stomach for a fight.

Chris Jordan though brought some smiles to the camp with a cameo of 30. There were no substantial partnerships and Punjab just didn’t arrive tonight, KKR had their spinners firing for them after the pacers had managed a few early strikes. Shivam Mavi deserved a special mention, who really struck every right chord while bowling with the new ball to return with figures of one 13 in his four overs while Prasidh Krishna returned with three scalps.
