[WATCH]- Ravindra Jadeja Breaks Long Partnership With Verreynne’s Stumping On Day 2
Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja, with support from skipper Rishabh Pant, removed Kyle Verreynne on Day 2 of the second Test against South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, November 23. The stumping not only dismissed Verreynne but also ended the 88-run seventh-wicket stand he had built with Senuran Muthusamy.

Verreynne walked back after scoring 45 off 122 deliveries, leaving the visitors at 334/7. His dismissal occurred in the 121st over of South Africa’s first innings. Jadeja delivered a short, wide ball as Verreynne advanced down the track prematurely.

The left-arm spinner pushed the delivery through at 96.8 kmph, and it spun sharply away after pitching, beating Verreynne’s attempted shot. Pant then did the rest, completing an easy stumping behind the wickets. You can watch the video here:

This marked Ravindra Jadeja’s second dismissal of the innings, after he had earlier removed captain Temba Bavuma for 41. The 36-year-old has been outstanding with the ball throughout the ongoing Test series against South Africa, having also claimed four wickets in the opening Test in Kolkata.

Muthusamy And Verreynne Lead South Africa’s Control In 2nd Test

A composed batting effort from Senuran Muthusamy and Kyle Verreynne put South Africa firmly in control on Day 2 of the second Test. At the time of reporting, the visitors had reached 356/7, with Muthusamy unbeaten on 74 and Marco Jansen on 15. For India, Kuldeep Yadav stood out once again, claiming three wickets.

On Day 1, Tristan Stubbs had led the scoring with a patient 49 off 112 balls, while skipper Temba Bavuma added 41. Openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton contributed 38 and 35 respectively, giving South Africa a solid start with an 82-run opening partnership.

The Proteas currently hold a 1-0 lead in the two-match series after their 30-run win in the first Test. They now aim to secure their first Test series victory on Indian soil since the 1999/2000 tour. On the other hand, India will be eager to prevent another home Test series setback, especially after last year’s 0-3 loss to New Zealand.
