Newly-appointed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ravindra Jadeja didn’t had a great start to his leadership career. The defending champions have lost five of their six games in IPL 2022 and toil at the second-last position in the points table. Their latest defeat came against Gujarat Titans (GT), who banked on David Miller’s spirited batting performances to rout CSK.

Defending 169 runs, CSK were running the show, reducing Gujarat to 16/3 in just 3.5 overs. Without captain Hardik Pandya, the Titans were under immense pressure with David Miller trying to steer the run chase. Wriddhiman Saha and Rahul Tewatia but gave away their wickets as Chennai were cruising through victory.

But Miller had other things in mind. He along with stand-in captain Rashid Khan took the game as deep as possible. The Super Kings had an opportunity to pocket the game in the 17th over when David Miller’s mistimed shot went towards the mid-wicket region.

Surprisingly, the all-rounder didn’t make an effort to catch the ball as he seemed obstructed by the floodlight. The turn of events left Ravindra Jadeja furious. The veteran all-rounder even took off his cap and was about to throw it on the ground but controlled his emotions eventually.

Ravindra Jadeja and Co. were on the driver’s seat until the 18th over when Rashid Khan milked 25 runs off Chris Jordan to shift the momentum of the game. David Miller eventually remained unbeaten on 94 runs off 51 balls to see Gujarat home and strengthen their position at the top of the table.

“We didn’t execute our plans in the last five overs” – Ravindra Jadeja

Speaking at the end of the match, CSK captain admitted that they lost the plot in the final five overs where they leaked too many runs to gift the game to Gujarat Titans. Ravindra Jadeja also backed underfire Chris Jordan, saying that he has one of the best yorkers in the game at present.

“We started brilliantly, as a bowling unit we did well in the first 6 overs. When we were batting, the wicket was holding up a bit. The ball was gripping, but we didn’t execute our plans in the last 5 overs. I thought CJ could execute his yorkers, but he couldn’t do so. That’s the beauty of T20 cricket,” Jadeja said.

Chennai are currently ninth in the points table with one win from six matches.
