I wanted Ishan Kishan to get off the mark: Rohit Sharma

Explaining his gesture, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma pressed that he wanted Ishan Kishan to get off the mark as this was his debut match. He added that it can be frustrating for a batter to wait in the dressing room for a long time before walking out to bat on debut. Speaking at the end of the match, Rohit Sharma said,

“I was just letting them know we have an over or so before declaring. Wanted Ishan to get off the mark. Wanted to tell him to get his personal mark and then we had to declare. I could see that he was always eager to bat, it could be frustrating for them.”

“I can understand, playing your first Test match, you have a lot of nerves going around, and I could see, he was sitting there in the dressing room, the entire [second] day, wanting to go out to bat, so I know the feeling, but I was just letting him know that we probably have an over or two and then we’re going to declare,” he added.

Team India won the first Test by an innings and 141 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal won the Player of the Match award for a brilliant knock of 171 runs on debut. Rohit Sharma also slammed a century in the match, while Virat Kohli scored 76 runs. Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin took thirteen wickets in the match.
