3. Adam Gilchrist Walking off in the World Cup semifinal
Australian wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist gave a perfect example that displayed Spirit of Cricket. Australia was facing Sri Lanka in the semi-finals of the 2003 World Cup. A lot was at stake as both teams were fighting it out to make it to the mega finals. Gilchrist was batting beautifully and then suddenly against the run of play he went back to the pavilion.
The southpaw attempted a cheeky sweep shot that lobbed to the wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara. The Lankans appealed but umpire Rudi Koertzen did not spot the inside edge and did not raise his finger. Gilchrist, however, knew he had hit the ball and walked off much to the delight of the Sri Lankan team.
