Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra has been giving his verdict on 5 players every franchise should retain ahead of the IPL 2021 mega auction. In his most recent one, he has spoken about Delhi Capitals. He has chosen a total of five players, he thinks the franchise should retain ahead of the auction. He has chosen three Indian players and two overseas players whom the franchise should retain. In the process, he has left out a few of the key players of the franchise.

Among the Indian players, Aakash Chopra has picked Shikhar Dhawan, skipper Shreyas Iyer and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Though Pant did not have a good season with the Capitals this year, the former Indian batsman believes that he will still be retained. The trio forms the core of the team and their batting core as well.

Aakash Chopra Picks Marcus Stoinis Ahead of Anrich Nortje

Among the two foreign players, Chopra has chosen Marcus Stoinis and Kagiso Rabada. While Rabada was sure shot retention as per him, he has explained the reason behind picking Stoinis ahead of Anrich Nortje. He thinks that Stoinis’s all-round ability is key for the Capitals while they can buy Nortje back in the auction or use the RTM card.

Among the players whom Aakash Chopra left out includes R Ashwin, Axar Patel and Prithvi Shaw. All three players have been key to Delhi’s success this year, but Chopra still thinks that the franchise will leave out these players.

Shikhar Dhawan ended the season with over 600 runs while Shreyas Iyer scored 519 runs. Together Nortje and Rabada took 52 wickets. All the above-mentioned players played a key role in taking Delhi to their maiden IPL final appearance. It will be interesting to see which players, the franchise ultimately retains and whom they leave out at the mega auction.
