George Bailey Appointed As New Australian Chairman of Selectors

Former Australian skipper George Bailey has been appointed as the new chairman of selectors for the Australian Men’s national cricket team. Bailey has replaced former selector Trevor Hohns to the post. Hons joined the selection panel way back in 1991 and served as the chairman for two different stints. from 1995 to 2005 and 2016 to 2021. The Australian cricket team saw its golden period during his tenure setting a world record of winning 16 consecutive Test matches, five Ashes series and three 50-over World Cups between 1999 to 2007.

Meanwhile, George Bailey who replaced Hons to the post, joined the selection panel last February as a replacement for Greg Chappell. He played 90 ODIs, 30 T20Is and five Tests in national colours. He also led the team on 57 occasions (29 ODIs and 28 T20Is) in international cricket.

George Bailey Replaces Trevor Hohns As Next Australian Chairman Of Selectors

Former Selector Trevor Hohns looked back at his tenure and said that the game was kind to him and he was lucky to have managed the best of Australian players during his time.

“The game has been great to me and I have loved every minute of it, from the good times to the bad. I have been extremely fortunate to be involved with some of the greatest Australian teams of all time and many of the best players to have played the game” Hohns said.

“The successes of the side over the years have been great but I remember my time just as much for the wonderful people you work with and those you meet along the way. It has been an amazing journey for me, but all things come to an end. I am happy with my decision,” Hohns added.

George Bailey, on the other hand, also shared his vision on taking up this new role. He started by saying that he wants to walk on the footsteps of Hohns and then look to put his style of work.

“Firstly, I would like to thank Trevor for his incredible work which has helped shape the success of Australian cricket over a long period, including during my days as a player and captain. In what can be a challenging job Trevor has always been calm, consistent and approachable. Similarly to his journey, he has made my transition from player to selector as smooth as possible. There is a lot I will take from Trevor’s style and very much look forward to the journey ahead,” Bailey said.
