The excitement is always top-notch when matches of IPL 2020 are at Sharjah Cricket stadium. Yet another time we saw a high scoring contest this time between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals. Speaking at the end of the game, Delhi skipper Shreyas Iyer seemed content with the performance of his side.

Batting first DC teed off from ball one as they had a huge total in mind. Their openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw once again gave them a flying start.

Following that it was all about their skipper Shreyas Iyer who led from the front. After facing flak for his low strike in the previous match Iyer looked like a match on a mission.

The right-handed batsman made full use of the short boundaries and batted with real intent. Iyer scored 88 in just 38 balls in which he hit 6 monstrous sixes. Rishabh Pant in the end too had fun as they took the DC total to a colossal 228.

The KKR chase didn’t drive with fireworks as the DC bowlers held their own. Nitish Rana looked in great form as he executed some exceptional shots. Surprisingly the KKR management once again sent probably their best batsman Eoin Morgan at number 6.

The destructive middle-order batsman had to swing hard from ball one and he did just that. When it seemed DC will win a one-sided match, Morgan turned it on.

The England captain brought KKR right back into the contest along with Rahul Tripathi. The highlight of the match was when Morgan took on Kagiso Rabada and hit him for 3 consecutive sixes.

When it was anybody’s game in the last few overs, Anrich Nortje picked the prized scalp of Morgan. He scored 44 in mere 18 balls and once again confirmed his class. Unfortunately for KKR they ultimately fell short off the target by 18 runs. Shreyas Iyer for his brilliant knock was also awarded the man of the match award.

Here’s what the winning captain Shreyas Iyer had to say after the match

“It is really difficult to defend here. It has been such an amazing tournament, especially in Sharjah. It is always a thrill to play at this ground, the last time I played here was in the under-19s”.

“Winning the match was the icing on the cake. It was really necessary for me to take time at the start which I did in the earlier games as well. It was the right time for me to take on the bowlers and then rotate the strike as well after that”.

“Luckily it worked out for me. I know the hard work and the smart work I have put in through my gym sessions, so I wouldn’t say I am a very gifted player. Really satisfied with the way everyone stepped up. Unfortunate to lose Mishra in the middle when he was spinning the ball really well”, Iyer added.

“We were confident we had two good overs left, but anything could happen, it is a funny game is T20s and especially here in Sharjah. We really have a good platform and we have to be insatiable with our work ethics and keep getting better game after game”, Shreyas Iyer post the win against KKR.
