The Indian Premier League carnival has reached its fifteenth edition. The IPL 2022 season is all set to begin on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The high scores, huge sixes, thrilling finishes, exciting bowling performances makes the tournament one of the best in the world.

Over the years, IPL has witnessed numerous success stories, of players making it big in the league. The highest run-getter in the season is awarded an Orange Cap, while the highest wicket-taker is awarded the Purple cap. This season, too, the players will be aiming to win the elusive awards.

On that note, let’s take a look at five players who can win the orange cap in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.

#5 Faf Du Plessis

Faf Du Plessis has been a consistent performer in the Indian Premeir League over the last few years. He was the second leading run-scorer last year and missed out on the orange cap by just 2 runs. Du Plessis scored 633 runs at an average of 45.21, including six half-centuries. He played a key role in Chennai Super Kings‘ title-winning campaign.

The South African veteran cricketer was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for 7 crores in the IPL 2022 auctions. He will have an added responsibility with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, as he will be leading the franchise this year.

Faf Du Plessis will be keen to replicate his last season’s performance in IPL 2022.


#4 Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad lit up the Indian Premier League 2021 season with his classy batting. He was the leading run-getter in the season and was awarded the Orange Cap. The right-hander scored 635 runs in 16 matches, at an average of 45.35. He slammed his maiden IPL century, against Rajasthan Royals.

The opener was in outstanding form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy recently for Maharashtra. Gaikwad will once again play for the Yellow Army in the Indian Premier League 2022.

He was one of the four players, retained by the CSK ahead of IPL auctions.


#3 Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan has been one of the Delhi Capitals’ most consistent players over the last few years. He has scored over 500 plus runs in each of the last three Indian Premier League seasons. In the last edition, Dhawan slammed 587 runs in 16 matches, at an average of 39.13, including three half-centuries.

Owing to his fabulous performance over the years, the openers attracted a decent bidding war at the IPL auctions table. He was signed by the Punjab Kings for 8.25 crores.

The franchise will be hoping, Dhawan continues his sparkling performance in IPL 2022.


#2 Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is undoubtedly one of the best players in the Indian Premier League. He is the leading run-scorer in the tournament’s history so far, with 6283 runs at an average of 37.39. Playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kohli has slammed five centuries in IPL.

The prolific run-getter was retained by RCB ahead of IPL 2022 auctions. However, this year, Kohli will not be leading the franchise.

With the majority of the IPL 2022 leagues games set to take place in Mumbai, Kohli’s experience and record in these conditions may prove to be an asset for the franchise.


#1 KL Rahul

Just like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul too has a good record in Mumbai. The opener will be leading the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2022. He was drafted into the team after the IPL retentions by the franchise.

Rahul led the Punjab Kings in the last edition of the Indian Premier League. He had an outstanding season with the bat, scoring 626 runs at an average of 62.60. This was his third consecutive IPL season, with an average of over 50.

KL Rahul’s consistency makes him a strong contender who can win the orange cap in IPL 2022.
