Star Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw has reported failed the Yo-Yo test, recently conducted at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

A brainchild of Team India head coach Rahul Dravid, BCCI hosted a camp for white-ball cricketers at the NCA in view with the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 to follow later this year in Australia. The cricketers had to undergo Yo-Yo test, the benchmark fitness test required to be available for selection in the Indian team.

As per reports in PTI, while Hardik Pandya cleared the test with flying colours, Prithvi Shaw has flunked the Yo-Yo test. In fact, he scored less than 15 in the test. A player has to touch the 16.5 mark in order to pass the test.

Incidentally, Shaw’s fitness is a major reason behind him not getting picked in the Indian side despite belting runs in the domestic circuit.

“If Prithvi is not being repeatedly considered, then perhaps his fitness standards aren’t up to the mark, as in what is expected of a Team India player,” a source told PTI.

Meanwhile, the recently fitness report won’t hamper his participation in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), scheduled to commence on March 26.

Prithvi Shaw, who was retained by the franchise, is likely to pair up with exciting Aussie cricketer David Warner at the top of the order for the Delhi franchise.

“These are just fitness updates. Obviously, it doesn’t stop Prithvi from playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL. It’s just a fitness parameter and not the be all and end all,” a source told PTI.

Delhi Capitals will begin their IPL 2022 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 27 at the Brabourne Stadium.
