The IPL 2020 will commence with a mouth-watering clash between Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings. The two most successful sides in IPL history will lock horns against each other on September 19 at Abu Dhabi.

Ahead of their first encounter, the Mumbai Indians(MI) franchise has revealed their opening combination for the upcoming season. In an online press conference, skipper Rohit Sharma and Mahela Jayawardena disclosed the names of their two opening batsmen.

MI skipper Rohit asserted that he enjoys batting at the top, which now he has done for a long time. In the past, Rohit has been reluctant to bat at the top during IPL and most of the time batted in the middle order.

Rohit Sharma And Quinton de Kock Will Open For Mumbai Indians

However, ahead of IPL 2020, Jayawardena confirmed that Rohit will be opening along with South African Quinton de Kock in the UAE. The pair was highly successful for MI in the previous edition and Jayawardena added that the pair complement each other extremely well and will be once again opening in the upcoming season.

Rohit said, “I opened for the entire tournament last year and will continue to do that. As a team, we keep all options open. I’m happy to do what the team wants. I enjoy batting at the top of the order and I’ve been doing it for a while. But even when I play for India, the message to the management is to not close any door and keep all the options open, so I’ll do the same here”.

“Lynn is a great addition to the squad, but the combination of Rohit and Quinton did a phenomenal job for us last season. They complement each other well, they’re consistent and both of them are experienced. They’re good leaders as well, so why would you want to fix something that isn’t broken? We will continue to go with that,” said Jayawardene.
